History Makers 2010!
The People v. Leo Frank, premiered on PBS nationwide November 2, 2009. The film takes up one of the most fascinating criminal cases in American history: the 1913 murder of a child laborer, Mary Phagan, and the trial and lynching of Leo Frank, the Jewish factory supervisor accused of her murder. It is now available on DVD at the Leo Frank Film Store .
Dramatic recreations for The People v. Leo Frank were shot in the summer of 2009 in historical Georgia. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution featured a front-page article about the shoot. Visit the AJC's website for the story and behind the scenes photos here.
The War That Made America first aired in January 2006 on PBS. This four-part dramatic documentary brings to life the French and Indian War on the occasion of its 250th anniversary. Long overshadowed by the American Revolution that followed 20 years later, some historians now argue this poorly understood but vastly important conflict was truly the war that made America.
Episode 2, “Unlikely Allies” and Episode 4, “Unintended Consequences,” of this unusual PBS series were written and directed by Ben Loeterman. Combining feature film techniques with the accuracy of documentary storytelling, the series was shot in high definition video using CGI effects beyond the reach of most documentary filmmakers.
